YOUTH LAWN BOWLING PROGRAM

The Oshawa Lawn Bowling Club (OLBC) invites all youth aged 10 to 16 to come out for some serious FUN on our lawn bowling greens, for the 2012 season and for many more fun-filled years. (We welcome parents, as well.)

YOUTH LAWN BOWLING PROGRAMS exist in many other communities. Two local high schools have been involved at OLBC for many years (see testimonial from Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School).  Check out the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association website at www.olba.ca for a brief video presentation.

Our YOUTH LAWN BOWLING PROGRAM offers affordable, family-friendly, summer fun. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the game from skilled coaches/mentors and compete on a recreational or competitive level or both. It’s a great sport, providing physical fitness as well the chance to socialize with peers. Equipment and coaching are provided as part of the $25. membership fee.

We are located at the Northview Community Centre, 150 Beatrice St. East, in Oshawa, just west of Ritson Rd. We have one of the best lawn bowling facilities in the province, with two fully equipped, eight rink greens and our own clubroom.

Check out our brochure and flyer for further information and a registration form. End of Season Bash
Thursday, 29 September 2011 02:23
Mother Nature cooperated on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 and provided us with a warm, sunny day on which to hold our End of Season 2 Game Jitney and BBQ.  Over 80 club members were in attendance.  The BBQ was simply delicious! Thanks goes out to our Wednesday League Ladies who ran the jitney, to Bob Richardson and his committee who provided the food, to Bill Pearce for assigning the prizes (Quick Pick Lottery Tickets for the winners and all other participants in whatever capacity), to Crystal Davis (assisted by Jane Wood) who managed the Share the Wealth and the Rose Bush Draws. Thanks also to Howie Taylor for lovingly tending to the rose bush all season long and arranging for the draw. It was truly a great way to close out our bowling season.

Wasn't That Fun?!?
Wednesday, 07 September 2011 21:15

On Labour Day Monday, September 5th, 2011, 77 adventurous OLBC members braved the sometimes cool, cloudy weather to have some fun on our lawn bowling greens.  'Fun Day' was organized by Ernestine Vallee and her team.

Bill Pearce designed three different game formats whereby participants earned points for reaching designated targets.  Both greens were used, with a different game on each green.  Half of the members dispersed to each of the greens.  After a pizza lunch, they changed places so everybody experienced both games.

Bill Pearce and Nena Rossi officiated on the south green, while Keith Olan and Ernestine, later assisted by Carol Gifford, were the officials on the north green.  Thanks to all of the members who pitched right in upon arrival to set up the greens.

After delicious orange cake and ice cream served up by Betty Cloke and Loretta Worsley, 10 prizes, donated by members (Betty, Connie Rowett, and Priscilla Downs) were awarded to the top 10 point holders.  All other participants and crew received a lottery ticket to round out the day.

An enjoyable time was had by all.  Plans are already underway for next year's Fun Day!

Happy Birthday, Ben!
Wednesday, 24 August 2011 02:32

During OLBC's Open House in May, a gentleman by the name of Ben Ogunmoye, who hails from Nigeria, visited our club to give lawn bowling a try. He liked the game so much that he joined up.

Ben was here visiting his daughter who lives just a stone's throw away from the Oshawa Lawn Bowling Club. She thought it would be a good place for her father to stay active during his visit with her.

On Thursday, August 18th, prior to our Thursday evening jitney, club members celebrated Ben's 82nd birthday with his daughter and grandson, who very kindly provided a cake and beverages.

Ben related that he will be returning home to Nigeria in November but he's planning to be back for bowling season next year. (see 'Photos' for pictures of the event)
